There are moments that divide time into before and after. August 4, 2020, was one of those moments.

It began with seconds that felt impossible to comprehend. Then came the silence, the uncertainty, and the panic as we tried to understand what had happened and, more importantly, whether our people were safe. The hardest moments were waiting for news of all those we cared about. We learned that one of our community members had been critically injured. Against all odds, he survived. From that moment on, all that mattered was that every member of our community recovered.

At the time, Beirut Digital District was home to ten buildings. Glass covered every corner, offices were destroyed, and it seemed like what we had spent years building seemed to have changed in an instant. Yet what stood out most was not the destruction; it was the people. Neighbors, tenants, volunteers, NGOs, and partners came together with one shared purpose: to help one another move forward.

Working around the clock, we reopened our campus, and within a week, 95% of our tenants had returned. Together with many organizations, we supported one of Beirut's largest relief efforts, proving that when a community stands together, hope becomes stronger than despair.

Back then, our community dropped to around 900 members. Today, more than 4,200 innovators, entrepreneurs, creators, and dreamers call BDD home. Every new company, every idea launched, every collaboration, and every success is a quiet but powerful statement of what we believe: Lebanon's greatest strength has always been its people and their ability to keep building, creating, and imagining a better tomorrow.

That belief continues to guide us. It is why we remain committed to being a campus where ideas flourish, opportunities are created, and optimism is transformed into action.

Today, we remember those whose lives were forever changed and honor those we lost. We continue to hope that justice will be served, not only to bring accountability, but to ensure that no family, no community, and no nation has to endure such a tragedy again.

August 4 is a day of remembrance. It is also a reminder that even in our darkest moments, we chose to build, together. And we continue to believe, in our people, in our future, and in Lebanon.
