Staff Vision Sensor Architect

Job Description

Join the company that is putting “the eye” in AI. Oculi®, Latin word for eyes, is an AI deep-tech fabless semiconductor company that produces the OCULI SPU™, the first practical silicon chip that closely mimics biology in selectivity, parallel processing and efficiency but outperforms in speed. Oculi technology enables the fastest and lowest power vision solutions. The OCULI SPU S11 holds the world’s record, and by far, in latency*energy factor. Join the thought leaders in the field and play a critical role in delivering fast, efficient, secure, and low SWaP computer/machine vision solutions to the defense market

ABOUT THE JOB:

At Oculi, we are a start-up pushing AI sensing to the edge and have developed the World’s First Smart Programmable Vision Sensor™. Hardware gains are achieved by moving smarts to the pixel – the Oculi IntelliPixel©. This enables vastly more efficient and adaptable AI than possible with today’s conventional image sensor architectures. These results confirm the promise of the technology to bring breakthroughs in energy efficiency and performance to AI tasks including perception and control from the edge.

We are looking for individuals who bring an excitement for new technology with a deep and wide background for solving the challenges of implementing new technologies. The Chip Architect will lead the definition of the next-generation IntelliPixel SPU Vision Sensor. This role converts system requirements into silicon implementation, and requires a strong background in mixed-signal integration for vision interfaces within ultra-low low-power constraints. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who drives detailed technical specifications, conducts performance trade-off analyses, and serves as the primary architectural liaison across engineering.

This role is available as remote or onsite.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

As a Staff Vision Sensor Architect, your primary responsibilities include leading all aspects of analog mixed signal design.

  • Lead power analysis for architectural trade-offs. Develop models for sensor performance (uW/framerate) and drive decisions to optimize the sensor power and area.
  • Translate use case requirements into specific architectural specifications.
  • develop detailed chip specification documentation, such as architecture, block diagrams, and timing diagrams.
  • Define and drive the top-level sensor architecture including on-chip NPU’s.
  • Ensure firmware is easily programmable and meets real-time constraints.
  • Provide detailed specifications and strategies to block team members.
  • Drive ultra-low-power design methodologies and architectural choices to achieve ultra-low battery-powered specifications.
  • Rapidly learn new design skills and computing concepts due to the novel flexibility of Oculi’s AI at the edge. A passion for innovation and a strong eagerness to learn are essential for success in this role.

QUALIFICATIONS:

You must possess the below minimum education requirements and minimum required qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Relevant experience can be gained through coursework, classes, project work, internships, and/or military service. Additional preferred qualifications are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS EE with 12+ or MS EE with 10+ years of experience.
  • Deep background in mixed signal design for sensors.
  • Leading multiple successful product tape-outs.
  • Significant experience in designing for ultra-low power use cases.
  • Significant experience in design and optimizing NPUs.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Understanding of CMOS image sensor functions and operation (Global Shutter, Ambient Light Sensing, High Dynamic Range, etc.).
  • Experience with Cadence and Synopsis design tools.

POSTING STATEMENT:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, religious creed, sex, national origin, ancestry, age, physical or mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, military and veteran status, marital status, pregnancy, gender, gender expression, gender identity, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by local law, regulation, or ordinance.

The base salary range for this position is $125,000 – $186,000 a year. The base salary ultimately offered is determined through a review of education, experience, training, skills, qualifications, and location. This position is also eligible for a discretionary bonus, equity and a full range of medical and other benefits.

WORKING MODEL:

This role is available as a remote role and generally would require travel to Oculi sites occasionally, based on business need. In certain circumstances the work model may change to accommodate business needs.
