Job Description:

We are seeking an exceptional Physicist, Atmospheric Scientist, Computer Scientist, or Applied Mathematician to join our novel EarthAI project as a Postdoctoral Fellow. This unique role is centered on developing and applying advanced artificial intelligence models to satellite data for critical environmental research, with a focus on atmospheric pollutants and climate impact. The successful candidate will work closely with our MethaneSAT and TEMPO teams, driving innovation in AI applications to enhance our understanding and stewardship of the planet.

Key Goals:

  • Develop AI algorithms to interpret and analyze environmental data from satellite observations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate AI solutions with atmospheric science techniques.
  • Optimize models for accuracy, efficiency, and real-time data processing.
  • Publish findings and present research at national and international platforms.
  • Mentor junior researchers and engage in community outreach and education initiatives.
  • Participate in grant writing and secure funding to support research projects.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Physics, Atmospheric Sciences, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated experience in machine learning, data analysis, and computational modeling.
  • Strong publication record in relevant scientific domains.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to innovate and operate independently within a dynamic team environment.


About the Center for Astrophysics:

The Center for Astrophysics | Harvard & Smithsonian (CfA) combines the faculties and research facilities of the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO) and the Harvard College Observatory (HCO) under a single director to pursue studies of those basic physical processes that determine the nature and evolution of the universe. CfA scientists organize broad-based research programs into the phenomena of the night sky, and provide substantial advanced technology and support to the astronomical community. CfA staff also undertake a diverse program of science education and public outreach to foster the understanding of our science and to convey the excitement of astronomy to the public.


Compensation and Benefits:

Stipend $81,963.00USD
